On the afternoon of September 7, 1907, a mysterious fire broke out in the basement of the famed San Francisco Cliff House. The structure was quickly consumed in flames. The sensationalization of another tragedy following the great earthquake of 1906 gripped the city, and many SF photography studios began using backdrops of the Cliff House in its glory, as seen here. A nice piece of San Francisco history, ready to hang.
